The French dream of second homes

Last summer, Crédit Foncier commissioned the Elabe firm to conduct a study on second homes in France.

Everything was scrutinized: ownership, location of acquisition, and purchase intentions; the French responded to all these questions, allowing us today to provide a precise assessment of second homes in France.

If you wish to sell a house in Guer, this is good news for you.

The figure: 3.4 million second homes in France

France currently has 3.4 million second homes out of a total of 34.8 million dwellings. This represents 10% of the total housing stock in France.

The interesting data for you, as you plan to sell your house, is that nearly 57% of second homes are indeed houses. In most cases, these were acquired as an investment.

That said, 26% of those surveyed stated that they had inherited the property from one of their parents. Finally, only 7% of landlords aged between 25 and 34 own a second home in France.

4 out of 10 French people would like to buy a second home

You will likely have no trouble finding a buyer for your house because, according to the survey, 4 out of 10 French people are eager to acquire a second home, particularly tenants (44%), who expressed their desire more strongly than homeowners (36%)—a fact that can be explained by many tenants being located in large urban areas. Unsurprisingly, the 25-34 age group is the most motivated (55% of those surveyed).

The latest advantageous trend for you, who wish to put your house up for sale: three out of five French people (60% of those interviewed) prefer to invest in a seaside home. However, Guer is only an hour’s drive from the ocean. Furthermore, the coastline attracts residents of the Paris region even more strongly (71%).
